Alex Beaton
Take a great baritone voice, add a kilt and a guitar and
what do you have?
Whether you are at a Highland Games in the wilds of North
Carolina, or a Burns Night in California chances are you will hear Alex Beaton.
Alex is the quintessential entertainer who is at home on the
concert stage as well as clubs and on the banquet circuit. His virtuoso guitar playing and engaging
stage presence compliments his rich baritone voice. This winning combination has made him the
most popular and successful Scottish folksinger in North America with a large
and loyal following all across the continent.
Alex was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and began his
professional career with the Cumberland Three, one of Britain's most popular
folk singing acts of the sixties. He
launched his solo career in New York in 1968 appearing in clubs and in concerts
throughout the United States. During the seventies Alex displayed his
versatility performing Country and Pop music to audiences nationwide.
Although he enjoyed his success as an entertainer he
recognized that there was a desire among American audiences for traditional
Celtic music. He knew that the natural
outlet for his music was the Highland Games that can be found all over the
continent, wherever there are people of Scottish heritage. He founded Glenfinnan Music Ltd. and began to
open a market for the traditional singer at the gatherings. Now, at every one, the folksinger is there
along with the athlete and the piper.
Alex has met with international acclaim and has made
numerous radio and television appearances both in America and Great
Britain. His repertoire includes a wide
range of musical expression from poignant ballads to rousing Celtic classics.
If you want to spend some time immersed in the sounds of
Scotland, and know more about the land that gave birth to the ancestors of many
Americans, sit in the audience and experience Alex Beaton.

into a sound that is weighty, authoritative, and extremely entertaining. Their

The City of Washington Pipe Band
The City of Washington Pipe Band is one of the top competitive pipe bands in the
United States, and has been active in the DC area since its inception in 1961.
The band performs and competes on the international circuit in Grade I, and has
garnered many awards and honors, including the title of Grade II World
Champions.
Today the City of Washington Pipe Band proudly carries forward with the
musical traditions of all its roots. These include the rudimentary drum
and bugle percussion style of John Bosworth; the fiddle and folk traditions
learned from Bonnie Rideout; and the original compositions of Charlie
Glendinning. The band's members also work with local bands like Guilford &
District and Rockville High School to ensure that future generations of pipers
and drummers keep these musical traditions strong. And like the U.S. Air Force
Pipe Band a half-century ago, the City of Washington Pipe Band brings all the
power and glory of the modern pipe band to the Nation's Capital in performances
ranging from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the Mall to the Concert Hall
of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. |

Coyote
Run
Originally formed in 1999, Coyote Run has
changed significantly from its Celtic Folk roots, evolving into one of the
hottest bands on the Celtic Rock circuit today. Blending traditional tunes with
rich, literate lyrics, compelling melodies and rock, jazz and flamenco
instrumental hooks, this band weaves a tapestry unlike any other out there.
Their lyrics and music take the audience on a journey that is at once heart
stopping and foot stomping. Tears, laughter, clapping and spontaneous dancing
are regular features of a Coyote Run concert. Our instrumentation begins with musical elements familiar to fans of Celtic
music, i.e. wailing bagpipes, dancing whistles, and intricately woven accordion
lines, but then includes the tribal growl of the didgeridoo and the backbeat of
the djembe, all couched and supported by world class jazz/rock bass, and
electric and flamenco guitar. But none of this would work at all, were it not
for the symphonic, nuanced and incredibly powerful rock drumming that surrounds,
supports and drives all of the music. All of this musical power and richness
wraps around our acclaimed lyrics. Founder David Doersch was a professor of
Theatre for over 20 years when he began writing the music that brought this band
together. His love of poetry, drama and myth has served as the focal point for
this wildly unique band.
"Imagine Jethro Tull on Broadway and you start to get the
picture." -- Sam McDonald, Music Editor, Daily Press,
